Mary Ann Williams, Ph.D.
August 1945 – November 1991
President, ASFW 1990 – 1991

Dr. Mary Ann Williams joined the faculty of The Ohio State University in 1972. She was a poet, playwright, actress, and theatrical director in addition to being, at all times, a teacher. “Doc”, as she was affectionately known by her students, is remembered most vividly by those who knew her for facing life with a huge smile and, as she writes in “Legacy”, her 1991 tribute to women’s leadership, ”…the chutzpah and the heart to squeeze the laughter out of life…”

She instills in others a sense of confidence to succeed. She promotes a greater understanding of others, bridges differences, and encourages co-workers and friends to collaborate and cooperate. She has touched one person or many.

This award recognizes a university woman who exhibits a special kind of leadership with a certificate and $500 honorarium.
